South Africa has an abundance of grape varieties and in recent years over forty percent of the vineyards have been replanted as the South African wine industry prepares to operate on a global scale. Shifting the industries focus from volume productions to increasing quality wines and superior cultivars.

South African vineyards have been predominantly white wine vines through the years but a tendency is emerging to produce a more market driven balanced quantity of white and red wines.
